There is the particular and last judgement. The soul is the animating part of the body. It has a beginning but no end. It is immortal. The soul is conscious and can see with out eyes. We see in our dreams. Sight comes from God and he doesn't take it away.
The difference between Christianity and Eastern religions is that you stay you. You are not reincarnated or absorbed into the cosmos. If in life you have chosen God, that becomes fixed and unchangeable. Then all grace from God stops. The soul clearly sees in a light from God the decision it has made. It also sees all the evil choices it has made in life.
Judgement is not pronounced by God. We see ourselves as we are. It's intellectual illumination. It sees its life and if it has rejected God it falls into hell of its own choice. Sin is heavy and falls. Virtue is light and rises. The soul wants to retreat from the God it hates. Every sin causes brokenness. It's part of free will. If you use your free will to turn away from God you will have the opposite of the virtues. Darkness comes from rebelling against God. At death you see the truth of your sinful life. In a sinful state no one wants to pray or think about God. If you come to love evil and are totally averted to God, you will not want to walk to the light. You will want to run and hide. You chose darkness.
Where does the soul fall to?
